You Suck - A Love Story Book Review

You Suck: A Love Story tells the classic tale of two vampires in love, but it's not your average vampire tale. Grocery store night-clerk, Thomas C. Flood wakes up to find himself turned into a vampire by his girlfriend, Jody. Though he's more than a little mad about his transformation, the two decide to make it work. First on their list of things to do, besides experimenting with their new powers and abilities, is finding a minion. They find one in Abby Normal, a goth teen who worships their kind. All seems to be going well, until the vamp who turned Jody comes after them, and Flood's coworkers (a group of anti-vampires called The Animals) find out he's a vampire. Then there's the blue prostitute named Blue who wants them all dead.

Critics at The Onion call author Christopher Moore, "The thinking man's Dave Barry or the impatient man's Tom Robbins." Fans of comical fantasies will love this book!

I love how witty and clever the writing is in this novel, yet it's modern and easy to follow. It has a writing style and themes that are accessible to any thinking reader. I also like how Moore works within the vampire mythologies, creating a few new ones and dispelling some classics. For instance, victims turn to dust after they are drained of blood, and vampires cannot ingest anything but blood. These changes held my interest as I wanted to know how these vampires interacted with each other and the rest of the world.

There is nothing I disliked about this novel. It was truly entertaining and clever!

I have to find more of Christopher Moore's novels. I had heard somewhere that You Suck: A Love Story wasn't his best work, so I thought it would be a good one to start with. Now I'm wondering how fantastic his other works are if this is considered not as good. I'll definitely be finding more of his work to read!

Christopher Moore is known for his comical takes on classic myths and characters. In this novel, he takes a new twist on vampires. In others, he examines Death (the classic grim reaper) and even Jesus. I'm sure a few could take offense to his writing, so it would be wise to research a bit before reader and to keep an open mind.

You Suck: A Love Story has everything you could want in a book - it's funny and smart and very entertaining.

Make Money Selling Used Books on Amazon

First of all look for all the books around your home that you no longer want. Once you have your books at the ready then register on the Amazon site which will literally take ten minutes or so.

Listing the books on the site is extremely easy as you enter the international book standard number and it will automatically bring up your book. You then can see the market price for your used book.

I would recommend entering your book price at one penny less than the nearest person which ensures you get a low price tag next to your book. You then just click and complete your listing. Amazon will then send you a sold dispatch now email when the book is sold and you mail the book to your customer.

Once you need more stock I recommend looking at the local charity shops and libraries. Also car boot sales and fairs are very good too. I have bought books for 25p and sold them for 20 pound and this happens weekly.

Not every category of book will sell extremely well so it is very important to avoid modern fiction titles. There are literally thousands of used books in this category on amazon and you will not be able to generate income with these types of books.

You should really be looking for older books with a hobby connotation. Good examples of these could be music, religion, self help, military, arts and crafts, sports and poetry to name but a few.

It is very easy to get the hang of and in time you will easily be able to identify what sells and what does not sell. I also personally sell dvd's online too but you must make sure that your dvd works before sending out to a customer because good customer feedback is very important in this business. Having said that dvd's are fast moving items and can easily make you a lot of money.

If you have an amazon library online of about one hundred books or so then you can be expecting to sell about 30 books or so a month. When you reach this level of sales then it makes it worthwhile to become an amazon book seller. This costs 25 pound a month but also cuts the 85p charge that amazon puts on your account every time a book sells. Of course Amazon needs to make some income from the arrangement with yourself but as you can see the 30 book per month and over limit makes it a viable business decision.

Another top tip is to try and keep your books small to medium in size to save on the postage costs. Amazon are quite generous and will give you a good postage allowance when selling your books but on very large books you will actually lose out.

Having said that school textbooks and educational books are very good sellers and can attract prices over 20 pounds or so therefore I would make an exception for those type of books.

This really is an easy business to operate and amazon provide an excellent online forum so you can talk to other amazon sellers and also gets lots of good tips and advice.

Also as I mentioned at the beginning there are no initial overheads and once you get yourself committed to this business it is incredibly fun and rewarding. When I see those sold dispatch now emails coming through I never fail to get excited and so will you once you start your own online book selling service.

So what are you waiting for, go and grab your old books from the shelves and loft and get your own business started. I hope I have enthused you enough to get started.

Movie Review - Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

It's been way too long for Indiana Jones to whiplash his way back to the silver screen and only Spielberg could bring alive the persona of Indiana Jones, hat, boots, bull whip and all. For the uninitiated let me first give a small history lesson. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, two of the hottest talents of the seventies decided to come together to make a movie which at the time was promoted as "the return of high adventure". The movie, "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was directed by Spielberg & produced by Lucas, and went on to be one of the highest grosser of all time. Set in the time of 2nd World War, the pulsating story of the search for the Ark of the Covenant moved from US to Nepal and climaxed in Egypt.

It was followed by the not so good "Indiana Jones & the Temple of the Doom". Amrish Puri made a forgettable Hollywood debut but the romance of Indy's adventures remained alive. The third "Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade" is my second favorite because it had the unflappable Sean Connery who plays Indy's father. The search of the Holy Grail is one of my all time favorite yarns.
The common thread in all the above movies was the swash buckling, devil may care Indy Jones who got into and out of the most impossible situations with charm and panache. He plays a professor of archaeology who goes after the most difficult searches for old and forgotten relics, fights the bad guys, gets the girl and always has a happy ending.

The latest offering is all of the above but hey, Indy is twenty years older and yet hasn't seem to have lost his appetite of jumping over unjumpables and avoiding the million bullets that chase him. But then he has an illustrious contemporary in our own Rajnikant who can do all of this and more.
The movie is set in the mid fifties when US saw a commie behind every pole and the obsession of UFOs was coming of age. However Spielberg's obsession with aliens continues to be unrelenting as ever. So this time we have a sword brandishing Kate Blanchett, a protégé of Stalin, who with a little help of stoic faced hoodlums manages to get hold of Indy to guide them to the high security warehouse where the US Govt. stores all its rare, unexplainable artifacts. Those who have seen Raiders of the Lost Ark would remember the last scene where the Ark is being wheeled into this warehouse to its new and anonymous residence. The desired object this time is, well what else, a crystal skull which is the key to untold knowledge and unlimited power. Indy scores in round one and escapes, only to resume the chase later in the time honored tradition of the perennial adventurer.

Accompanying him this time is a John Dean look-alike teenager with an attitude. As it turns out he is Indy's son and from whom? Surprise, surprise, its Karen Allen, the vivacious, hard drinking, kick ass girl friend from the first edition of the series. Like Indy she has aged but the passion remains alive. It was great watching her all over again.

The end is predictable. The special effects from Lucas's factory Industrial Light & Magic are awesome, especially the aliens sequence at the end. And Indy decides to settle down with his old lady love and the new found progeny. I loved his reply when asked by Karen if there were other women in his life and why he didn't marry them. The man says"Yes there were some but all of them had the same problem. None of them was you". Here's a toast to old love and fairy tale endings. Cheers !
